Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Let this pitch dark world shine bright,
Make light the helpless farmers plight,
Stop them take their own life.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Warm this cold world with your might,
Make the inks on newspapers dry,
With news that’s not rape & cry.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Enlighten those who willingly blight,
Spraying poison on the food we eat,
Cancer, the outcome of this feat.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Grant our kids some divine insight,
Lost in the online world of unreal,
Let them not forget what is real.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Vanquish the need to kill a new born mite,
Lend some glow to a mother’s heart,
Whose womb bears a precious girl child.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Open our eyes to the anguish, pain & fright,
Mute animals we ruthlessly kill and maim,
For a bit of fun, money & self gain.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Awaken some faith in hopeless hearts,
Burn down the need for drinks & drugs,
To live their dreams & try their luck.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Lend those huddled heaps some heat,
Sleeping on footpaths & parks,
Nowhere to go once it’s cold and dark.
Thousands of diyas sparkling in the night,
Rekindle the generous & loving spirit,
Midst of all the blessings we enjoy,
Remind us to spread some of that joy.
Happy Diwali my dear friends!!!! This Diwali I will light every diya with a prayer & share it’s warmth with my near & dear ones. I will place a lighted diya on every gift I give away this Diwali & hope that the ‘Diyas sparkling in the night’ will fill their life with cheer & light. Wanna see how???
Collected some beautiful diya shaped dried pod petals, commonly found on a creeper in MP. Coloured them golden on the inside & bronze on the outside. Bought an electric diya and decorated it with sticker stones.
Wrapped up the gift with brown paper and lots of love.
Fixed the diya in the centre & stuck petals around it, one by one, in the shape of a flower using double sided tape.
Finally got the gift all covered and ‘flower’ed to go.
Lit the diya & watched the faces of my friends light up, on receiving the gift.
Alternately this arrangement can be made on a disused (coloured) CD & used as a tea light holder for Diwali.
Illuminating….. isn’t it?
